A day spent freeloading in the back of Wendy & Gregs' dual cab. (It is a great fuel saving to have a single cab ute.)
Today was a fairly comprehensive look around the area. Firstly to Woodys' gem shop which was far more interesting than the name may indicate, an amazing collection of gems & minerals, which I have always found fairly interesting anyway. On to Merbein where the Australian vanilla slice championships are held. A bit of a fizzer though as there wasn't even a bakery there. On to Wentworth (where we did get some vanilla slices, but very average) to see the confluence of the Murray & the Darling, this was well worth the trip as we watched another huge houseboat sail up the Murray & turn up into the Darling. Orange world...nothing to say except don't go. We then went on to The western botanical gardens, a little ordinary but a great rose garden.
Olive world, (refer Orange world). Trentham Estate winery a lovely spot right on the river, with the usual ubiquitous houseboats tied up out front.
Overall quite a good day covering a lot of country.
Moving on tomorrow to Nuriootpa, after we get the car serviced in the morning

There are quite a lot of well heeled houses in the area.
One of the older centre lift bridges over the Murray.
I think this is Wentworth, pretty sure anyway.
This is definately Wentworth, vanilla slice city.
There are quite a lot of these old style houses.
Pub.
Another wide tree lined street in Wentworth.
An old nunery school from the late 1800s. Note the corrigated iron nun in the front yard.
In the riverside park at the confluence of the Murray & Darling rivers.
Yvonne on the banks of the Darling.
Another houseboat enters the Darling from the Murray.
Viewing tower over the 2 rivers.
The joining of the waters is very distinct, the brown murky waters of the Darling & the cleaner waters of the Murray, they don't seem to mix very well at all.
Same again.
Street scene in Wentworth.
Inside the converted shearing shed at the botanical gardens.
Rose gardens.
Red rose..
Another red rose.
2 tone rose.
Olive grove.
Trentham Estate winery river bank.
Winery driveway.
