Today we cycled down along the Murray river, had coffee at a nice riverside coffee shop, took a paddle steamer cruise up river to a pub where we had lunch & a couple of cold beers & cruised back home again. Weather was great till lunch time but very hot in the afternoon, snooze in the A/C in the van. It is still over 30 at 9pm.
The grounds of an historic homestead along the banks of the Murray.
Avery nice cycle way along the river bank.
The old shearing shed now used as a hall, it's quite spectacular inside.
The walls in the shearing shed are adorned with pictures of many of the old river boats that used to ply these waters.
The work shed beside the shearing shed. Greg said this would make a good picture.
Us minus me at lock 11 at Mildura. There is a5.5 metre weir just around the corner which is on rails & is dragged out by tractor when the river floods .They had floods recently in October & the weir was only replaced just before Christmas & is already overflowing.
One of the many large houseboats on the river entering lock 11.
Less than 5 minutes later the lock is drained.
Out of the lock & heading down river.
A train engine in the park beside the coffee shop.
The water front on the Victorian side of the river at Mildura.
You can just make out the broad concrete cycle way along the river bank.
Taken from the the back deck of the 'Rothbury'
Cruising past another river boat & houseboat.
More houseboats moored along the river bank.
The Rothbury tied up in front of the lunch pub. The boat was built in 1881.
Lunchtime at the pub.
The not so high tech bridge of the Rothbury whilst cruisin along.
